Sometimes to feel and process my own emotions I need stories, Like to watch a movie, TV show, read a book, and in some cases even listen to the radio.
Somehow the most amazing and weird movies will call to me through their vague descriptions. One of the most memorable that I have found is Wrist Cutters: A Love Story. If you are into weird indie films you should totally check it out.
This time on Amazon Prime I found Paterson with Adam Driver from Star Wars. I am so horrible remembering celebrity names that I didn’t notice it was him until the movie started. The movie follows a poet bus driver who is grounded in his routines and his sporadic wife through a typical week in their lives together. I always seem to be drawn to movies about poets with regular jobs and lives of writers struggling to get their work out there. Not too surprising…
This movie helped me recognize I was back in the vicious cycle of writing some, not writing, and not submitting my poems or short stories any where. Even if all I ever accomplish is publishing for free using Amazon, at least I will have something out there in the ether. I did publish a short story, but it hasn’t really gotten much in the the way of readers.
The non-fictional source was very surprising to me. One day I was wanting to watch something new — anything and Hulu recommended Seeking Sister Wife. Which, in case it is not obvious, is about polygamous couples seeking sister wives to join their family. While some of the couples are religious, not all of them are and not all of the religious ones are Mormon.
I bit because I was bored and before I knew it I was shamelessly binge watching it. It really made me think a lot about jealousy and possessiveness, and want to strive to be less so. Not that I want to pursue a polygamous or even polyamorous relationship, I am not so sure either fits with my personality.
However, the idea of living and loving without feeling so insecure that I am jealous of my partner having close relationships and visa versa is definitely something I want to strive towards.

Would you share a link to the short story? 🙂

Thanks for asking! I had recently made it free on Amazon, but it’s back to being $0.99, but here the link to the Google doc if you are interested in reading it! It’s a bit odd… https://docs.google.com/document/d/1JkO8aWDiZfYtiExIuJF59VEPe5D5WjRT-JfVLI5HMWY/
