This year despite all of the chaos in The White House and on Capitol Hill, I still find myself as patriotic, and perhaps more so. The weight of the importance of American values, such as freedom of speech, separation of church and state, and inclusion is even more obvious to me in the days after Trump’s White House.
For me, American values are about protecting the weak, the needy, embracing them, and ensuring everyone, no matter what religion they are or are not, the color their skin, or who they have sex with, receives the same base level of respect and opportunity.
To me those are the real American values, and the real American Dream. While, we maybe still some distance away from that reality, I believe it is possible, and I feel fortunate to live in a country where I can vehemently oppose the President and live to fight another day for my ideals, while leaving peacefully next door to those who don’t agree with my politics.
